Deprecations

What deprecated means for Tetrate Agent Router, the removal window, and the running list of everything deprecated today. The list is rendered from the same release notes that announced each deprecation, so a deprecation cannot appear in a release without appearing here.

How changes are classified

Release notes classify every change, and the classes carry different obligations:

  • A breaking change is expected to break compatibility with the previous release. When operator action is required before upgrading, the release notes state it in an upgrade warning on the release's entry.
  • A deprecation marks a feature, API, or flag as discouraged and names its replacement. A deprecated feature keeps working; the deprecation starts the removal clock.
  • A behavior change means the interaction between the management plane and the data plane changed, not just the API shape. The release's entry calls it out.

The removal window

A deprecated feature is removed no sooner than twelve months after the release that deprecated it. The removal ships as a breaking change in a later release, and the row below then records which release removed it. Until then the feature keeps working, and the replacement named in the deprecation is the migration target.
