Deprecations
What deprecated means for Tetrate Agent Router, the removal window, and the running list of everything deprecated today. The list is rendered from the same release notes that announced each deprecation, so a deprecation cannot appear in a release without appearing here.
How changes are classified
Release notes classify every change, and the classes carry different obligations:
- A breaking change is expected to break compatibility with the previous release. When operator action is required before upgrading, the release notes state it in an upgrade warning on the release's entry.
- A deprecation marks a feature, API, or flag as discouraged and names its replacement. A deprecated feature keeps working; the deprecation starts the removal clock.
- A behavior change means the interaction between the management plane and the data plane changed, not just the API shape. The release's entry calls it out.
The removal window
A deprecated feature is removed no sooner than twelve months after the release that deprecated it. The removal ships as a breaking change in a later release, and the row below then records which release removed it. Until then the feature keeps working, and the replacement named in the deprecation is the migration target.
A deprecation can name an earlier removal release when the feature belongs to a model the product has already replaced. The release notes entry then names that release, and it overrides the twelve-month date in the Removal due column. 0.7.0 carries two such deprecations:
- The
your_hostnameslist on the403a data plane sends for a key used on a hostname its project is not served from is removed in 0.8.0. Thecategoryandreference_idfields stay. See A key rejected on the wrong hostname. - A project owner attaching a project to a gateway, detaching one, or deleting a gateway is removed in 0.9.0, which requires a platform administrator for all three.
What is deprecated today
| What is deprecated | Deprecated in | Deprecated on | Removal due | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Kitchen Sink workbench is removed from the Developers section. | v0.1.5 | August 28, 2026 | August 28, 2027 | Removed in v0.1.5 |
--serve-url is deprecated on tare install and tare upgrade. | v0.3.0 | September 9, 2026 | September 9, 2027 | On the clock until September 9, 2027 |
The microdollar cost fields are deprecated: they have always returned 0, and the decimal string fields carry the real amount at full precision (total_cost for one request, cost for a stats group). | v0.5.0 | September 23, 2026 | September 23, 2027 | On the clock until September 23, 2027 |
| The externalService variant of a guardrail rule's configuration is deprecated: nothing reads it, and its headers were never sent as HTTP headers. | v0.5.0 | September 23, 2026 | September 23, 2027 | On the clock until September 23, 2027 |
The AIDISCOVERY_OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_* variables and the envoyProxy.telemetry.metrics.aiDiscoveryOtelSdk.endpoint Helm value are deprecated in favor of TARS_GUARDRAILS_OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_* and guardrailsOtelSdk.endpoint. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
The egress.gateway.listeners Helm value is deprecated: the chart now provides the gateway's listener on port 10080 itself, because the gateway depends on that listener's name and port. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
| A project owner attaching a project to a gateway, detaching one, or deleting a gateway is deprecated, and 0.9.0 requires a platform administrator for all three. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
The your_hostnames list on the 403 a data plane sends when a key calls a hostname its project is not served from is deprecated, and 0.8.0 removes it. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
| Setting a data plane's or a project gateway's address through the admin API is deprecated. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
The data_plane field in the status endpoint responses is deprecated: the new hostname field carries the same value, and the old name was wrong because the field holds the host the request was sent to, which several data planes can serve. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
A catalog model list that sets only provider_id or include_disabled still returns the full catalog, but is deprecated and will return one page in a later release. | v0.7.0 | October 8, 2026 | October 8, 2027 | On the clock until October 8, 2027 |
